Tributes have been paid to a former Cleethorpes teaching assistant and Brown Owl who was known as "the lady with the smile".

Barbara Parker died on July 3 aged 76, after battling with dementia for a number of years.

She was a teaching assistant at St Peter's Church of England Primary School for more than 20 years.

Barbara, nee Radford, also led the 3rd Cleethorpes Brownie Pack for 25 years in its heyday, when there was a waiting list to join. She was also a district commissioner for the Brownie movement.

Ray Parker, her husband of 53 years, said: "She loved children and they loved her. She always had a smile on her face and was known to everyone as the lady with the smile."

"People always remember her walking along St Peter's Avenue greeting people and having a chat. She did a lot of the buying for her school along St Peter's Avenue."

"There are generations of children who will remember her for her dedication to young people and especially with the Brownies. She is much loved and will always be remembered."

Barbara was a keen member of the National Housewives' Register and was also a regular member at Louth Indoor Bowls Club.  She moved to Hampshire a few years ago with Ray.

She is survived by Ray, their two daughters Jane and Helen and four grandchildren.

There will be a private internment at Breach Farm Woodland Burial Ground followed by a funeral service from 1pm on Tuesday, July 16 at Bridge Street Methodist Church, Andover, Hampshire.

Donations are being received on behalf of MIND. Cheques payable to MIND can be forwarded to Co-operative Funeralcare, 22 London Street, Andover, SP10 2PE.
